Since I joined the Centro Family last November 2017, it made me realize how great the company is. It’s very important to have a leader that drives the organization and its people towards success. This is why I want to share my experience.

At my previous job, I was newly promoted to Customer Satisfaction Manager and the Training Manager back then, hindered my promotion multiple times. It was hard for me to comprehend her actions because being a leader myself, my goal is to always ensure that the people in my team progress, so that in time, they will be promoted as well. I was chosen and applied three times for that position, but she didn’t want to sign off. I believe that even if some members of my team are successful, that’s an achievement for me personally. But unfortunately, my previous boss was not like that.

I believe that if an opportunity knocks your door, you should take it. But if there’s someone who is stopping you to become successful, there is nowhere to go as much as you want to succeed.

But I didn’t let go and I kept applying to prove myself that I am worth it. I worked hard to make sure that my training results were good. I proved myself to be worthy of the position that I was applying for not just because I was good at my job but because they saw my leadership capabilities and I had a good understanding of operations as well, not only training.  I pushed even harder and made sure that the work I was doing added value to who I am as a person as much as it did for the company.

I  learned that wherever you go, there will always be people who put you down and block your path.  Sometimes in life, it’s not enough that you’re just good at what you do and that you have perseverance, you have to be strong enough to handle such issues and not allow them to break you.  You have to always make sure that your head is above the water.

When I joined Centro, one thing that I noticed was the slogan, “Where Excellence is the Average.” I’m a true believer in customer excellence but I also believe that if we take care of our people, our people will take care of our customers. And with that, servant leadership is very important. We are here to serve.  We need to know our teams well so that we can assist them, encourage them and share with them all our knowledge.

For me, achievement is not getting a trophy or being on the top, but seeing my people grow, move forward and come back saying that we didn’t only develop them into better employees for the business, but also better people in their personal lives. For me, this is what I call a great achievement.
