“I realized I had a knack for codes”

~ Charity Newlin – Centro Virginia

I started my talent at a very young age, remaining curious at the age of 4, I loved to take objects apart and try and put them back together in working order, of course that didn’t happen all the time. I started getting more in depth in my hobby when I turned 20 after I realized I had a knack for codes and enjoyed electronic gaming very much.

My first big project was a little indie game called “Without Walls,” I enjoyed working with the company in coding (programming) and de-bugging their final production. However, it would never come to fruition, the company had to decide that there wasn’t enough capital to complete the game. That was just the beginning, adding fuel to my fire to further pursue the coding industry.

I pursued all possibilities promoting myself in all applications and surveys to continue what I loved. I was fortunate to assist FM Studio® in coding and de-bugging “Forgotten Hill.” Recently I’ve been working on a couple of other games; Klei “Oxygen Not Included” (ONI) and the second game I cannot speak of yet due to a non-disclosure.

Someday I would like to open my own gallery and present my art to the world.

Once it’s released, I will be pleased to say “I got to work on it and with that company.” My biggest role model or I should say “models” are the Indie Game companies like Klei, Hinterland, Kojima, Chucklefish, and more, that are willing to build their lives, sweat, tears, and income into these games hoping for the best, not knowing what the outcome is, until the game would be a success. They gave me the courage and strength to continue my job search to eventually find Centro.

My biggest achievement was graduating top of my class with my Certification Degree in Medical Administration, and receiving an opportunity to work for some of the greatest names in the gaming industry. I can only see myself getting more opportunities to work for other gaming companies in the future and helping them anyway I can.

I have another contract in process for Kalypso, all I can do is keep my fingers crossed. Coding absolutely helped me with my Degree in my MAA, it gave me a better perception to see that I have a real talent, and helped me launch my career, I couldn’t ask for anything better.
