“I dance to express not to impress”

~ Joshua Smith – Centro Manila

“What made me fall in love with dance?” As cliché as it sounds, it was love at first sight, from the moment I watched “You Got Served” the movie, I knew I was meant to dance. I got hooked, I couldn’t stop dancing with or without music.

I craved to constantly learn, to immerse myself in the art, to be surrounded by people with the same desire as me; it was truly amazing. I loved every second of it. The feeling of being limitless on the dance floor, to be able to live in that moment of movement, to express the purest of emotions through each step, and to experience a level of satisfaction that I never knew existed. This is why I love to dance, and this is why I fall in love with it more and more each day.

My biggest achievement so far is, in fact, my dance team’s achievement, KASADYAHAN DANCE TROUPE, with the masterpiece of “Pandango Sa Ilaw” placing 7th out of 100+ Dance crew participants in Sayaw Pinoy 2013 National Competition. It was an honor for us to perform in front of people and show how great Filipino Folk Dance is.
