I am originally from El Salvador and I came to the US when I was 5 years old. I was diagnosed with Cancer (Leukemia) in 2005 and have been in remission since 2013. One of the goals I set when I got out of the hospital was that I wanted to go back to El Salvador and enjoy every minute of it. So, finally in 2016 I went for the first time and had a BLAST! I went to visit museums from the war, parks, had a “serenata” dedicated to me, ate so many food from street vendors, hung out with old friends, went to my favorite beach called “La Tortuga Verde”, and ate so much Pupusas which is one of the traditional dishes from El Salvador (it includes a tortilla filled with cheese, beans, and anything else you would like to fill it with.) I had a great experience going back to my native country! I would definitely encourage anyone to visit El Salvador and I promise you will have a great time!!!
