Hello! My name is Sky MacLean (Hanul Yoon). I was born in Seoul, South Korea and I’m currently living in Egypt. It’s been about 17 years now and I’m still counting!

I had and still having quite an adventurous life growing up here in Egypt as a foreigner. When I first came here I was eager to learn the Arabic language. My step-dad used to encourage me to explore the neighborhood in order for me to listen and learn the language, and to be familiar with the culture of course. After 3 years, I became a fluent speaker, but I was still missing the reading/writing part which I managed throughout the years.

Growing up, I used to work as a freelance interpreter for almost 5 years until the Egyptian revolution of 2011. At that time, I was having trouble finding a job or even fitting in one. Especially when you’ve been a young freelancer, you know that you don’t want to work for anyone. But, my family had some financial issues themselves so I decided to get rid of my ego and work my butt off. I used to wash dishes, deliver orders, and other stuff.

After a lot of struggling, I was accepted in an interview for a multinational electronics company, and I worked as an assistant supervisor for Production and Control. I had a lot of differences with my managers, so I decided to resign after a year. I’ll be honest with you, it wasn’t a smart decision but I did what I did.

Due to my dim-witted decision, I hit rock bottom for the second time. But at that time, my family had already gone abroad, and I couldn’t. I lived homeless and depressed for almost 2 years. Every night I’d sleep in my friend’s car and I used to work a 12-hour shift as a fitness trainer in a local gym which didn’t pay off much for me to get a rent.

One day, I decided to wake up and smell the coffee. I began to search for job opportunities and the first interview I got I was accepted in and they said that they’ll be expecting me to come to attend the training. Guess what, next day I was in Centro! In the beginning, it was hard for me to work a full shift in Centro and a half shift in the gym. But, after a while, I got myself a place to stay beside work and now I’m fully dedicated to Centro.
